Wireless Printers

Wireless printers use a radio frequency interface to connect networks and printers. They are also known as mobile wireless printers, handheld mobile printers, portable handheld printers, handheld wireless printers, mobile printers, handheld printers and pocket printers.

When no cables are required to connect devices, such as wireless printers, to a computer, the resulting system is called a wireless network. Wireless networks are also able to connect computers to other computers and share internet connections and devices. As with traditional networks, wireless networks can be very complex or simple, and suited to meet the network's physical needs. In a wireless network, the access point or base station can be a computer, router or special access point equipment that broadcasts wireless internet. Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity, meaning wireless standard, which is 802.11, used by wireless networks, such as in restaurants.

Setting up a Network

It is easy to set up a wireless network, but the necessary equipment depends on the type of network you choose to set up. Wireless network cards on each computer work for peer-to-peer networking, while a wireless hub or router works for sharing network connections, depending on how many network devices you have. The access point is a computer with the necessary software or hardware, dedicated to this purpose. There are also various wireless network kits available for setting this up on computers. There are several benefits to having a wireless network printer, such as needing no wires to connect to the wireless printer, and the fact that you can use a network connection to share a printer, which adds flexibility to your network. Unlike traditional printer sharing, where it is necessary to have the host printer, on a wireless printer’s network, you do not have this limitation.

You set up wireless printers on wireless networks exactly the same way as adding other devices. You need a USB printer along with a compatible wireless printer adapter. Some printers come with built-in wireless Ethernet adapters, in which case you do not need a wireless printer adapter, just a wireless print server connected to the network. Most printers are capable of becoming wireless printers if you have a USB connector. Simply purchase a wireless printer adapter and then plug this into your printer, to connect to your wireless network.

Buying Your Printer

When shopping for wireless printers, most local business supply stores and computer stores carry them. Online is also a great way to shop because it is convenient, so you do not have to leave home or work to look at wireless printers. Some of the many advantages to shopping online, along with the convenience, are the ability to compare many wireless printer makes and models quickly and easily. Web stores carry a huge selection, unlike local computer stores, because they do not have to house their stock. Be sure to shop only at reputable, secure sites.
